Beccles and District Historical Society: Bringing the Past to the Present
Our society was founded in 1927 and has a long tradition of helping our members expore the history of our town, county and country.
Each year we organise a number of excursions to places of historical interest. For several years at least one of the excursions has been a residential. In 2016 our residential was to Ironbridge, visiting Kenilworth Castle en route; and in June 2017 we visited Northumberland, including Alnwick Castle, Cragside and Lindisfarne. In July 2018 we visited Northamptonshire, enjoying several places of interest in the county as well as Newmarket on the way and Wimpole Hall on the return journey.. The 2019 residential was to Lincolnshire and included Lincoln Cathedral and river trip, RAF Coningsby, the Kinema in the Woods at Woodhall Spa and Sir Isaac Newton's home, Woolsthorpe Manor.
We provide a programme of evening talks from October to May (omitting January), held at Hungate Church in Beccles. Non-members may attend the talks for a small charge (currently £3).
We are keen to work with local organisations with an interest in history.
We welcome new members.
